(Posted 04/17/07) ALPA EarthDay Project at Asylum Lake
Meet at 9:00am at the Drake Road parking lot closest to Stadium Drive
for a Spring Trail Clean-Up around Asylum Lake. For those who can remain
until noon, we will follow up with a limited Garlic Mustard Pull, using the parking
area at the Gibbs House, 4503 Parkview Avenue, as our rendezvous. Large
garbage bags will be provided, but you will probably want gloves. Some of us
will share lunch together at noon - open to anyone interested. Questions or
details contact Cal Mastin 375-6870.
(Posted 06/12/06) County Animal Control Officers are Patrolling Asylum Lake.
Officers will be ticketing anyone with pets not on a leash. This includes
in the water. It is important for pet(s) to be on leashes while visiting the
Preserve in order to protect the natural environment as well as other
visitors and dogs.
(Posted 04/11/06) Volunteer Efforts to Pull Garlic Mustard at the Asylum Lake Preserve.
Asylum Lake Preservation Association is looking for volunteers
to help pull Garlic Mustard from the oak savannah portion of the
Asylum Lake property. Weather permitting, we will meet at 9:00
on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the WMU-Gibbs House on Parkview
Avenue, and we will work until noon. Remember to bring gloves.
(Posted 04/11/06) Coyote Sightings
We were recently informed by a frequent visitor to the Asylum Lake Preserve of two,
possibly three, coyotes on the property. His dog was not on a leash and ran after the cyotes.
The dog sustained some injurys from the encounter. This is another reason to keep your
dog on a leash while visiting the property.
