Effective Reading Seminars

Schedule

As part of the Intellectual Skills Development program, all entering students are required to demonstrate certain basic competencies in reading, writing and mathematics. The Effective Reading Seminars are designed to assist students in completing the requirements for the basic skills which are required to pass the course LS 1040.

1. Complete four College Success Seminars which include:
   • College Vocabulary Development
   • Increasing Your Reading Rate
   • Textbook Reading Strategies
   • One of your choice:
     • Learning Styles Exploration
     • Note Taking Techniques
     • Research Reading and Source Finding
     • Test Taking Strategies
     • Time Management
2. Call to schedule the test

Please call (269) 387-4442 to schedule a testing time with the Academic Skills Center. Bring a picture ID and a #2 pencil. You must complete item #1 listed above before you will be allowed to take the test.

Students requesting accommodations for a disability must provide a letter from Disabled Student Resources and Services. This letter, which outlines the applicable student needs, must be received one week prior to accommodations being provided and should be sent to:

You may choose to take a sample version of the reading test. To do this, come to room 2041 Moore Hall, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
