Art Education is a pre-professional program based on a comprehensive model of instructional theory. Specifically, we focus on both the creation of art and the development of critical and analytical skills necessary to the understanding of art. Our curriculum includes teaching methods that incorporate a variety of approaches to the analysis, interpretation and valuing of art in the context of a K-12 classroom. Student teacher training in area schools allows for the development of practical skills, culminating in an internship with a mentor teacher. Upon successful completion of their course of study, students are eligible to take the certification test and apply for Michigan certification in Visual Arts K-12.
