Leon Sun, originally from China, joins the Frostic School of Art in fall 2009 as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. Born in China, Leon believes that a unique perspective and meaningful connection with a community determine an artist's voice. His creative research has been deeply rooted in his personal living experience and observations in both Western and Eastern cultures. For the past 18 years coinciding with his diverse creative experiences across a wide spectrum of print design, book design, environmental design, motion design, interior design and drawing, Leon has developed a great interest in interdisciplinary approaches in his work. Major interests in his creative activities are the exploration of dimensional and spatial elements in graphic design, the use of digital technology as a creative tool or medium for visual communication, and experimentation in design methodologies. Leon earned his BFA and MFA degrees at Eastern Michigan University and Michigan State University respectively. He has previously taught at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, and Tianjin Real Estate Management School in Tianjin, China. Leon has received many awards of recognition, including Dissertation Completion Fellowship, Selma & Stanley Hollander Fellowship, and Excellence in Diversity Art Award at Michigan State University.
