Paul Nehring has been making art in many forms for more than thirty years. He received a BFA in painting from Western Michigan University and a MA, also in painting from Western Carolina University. Paul began as a painter but in 1990 he started working in wood and learned the skills necessary to begin building traditional and experimental musical instruments. Around the same time his visual art took a turn towards the three-dimensional and since then his work has alternated between painting, sculpture and music. Paul has been teaching part time in the WMU School of Art Foundation Program since 2000 as well as classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kellogg Community College, Kalamazoo College, and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. In early 2008 Paul was the Artist in Residence at the Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts and has since then been working with Education for the Arts to bring arts related programs into the public schools.
