Tricia Hennessy, professor of art, has been educational director of the Design Center and graphic design program coordinator since 1988. Before coming to the Frostic School of Art she taught six years at the Rhode Island School of Design and was a partner in Adleta and Hennessy Designers in Providence. She began her education in graphic design at University of Cincinnati, received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Ohio University then completed the master of fine arts equivalent in graphic design at the Basel School of Design, Switzerland. She has lectured and exhibited on a national and international level including presentations for AIGA and CAA. She was represented by Sointu Gallery in New York for a number of years and her calendar designs were available for purchase at the MOMA design store and numerous contemporary art museums in the country. From 1996-2000 she taught a summer workshop for color and drawing in Bali, Indonesia through Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She has a body of design work including posters and books in the permanent collection of the Zurich Museum of Design, Switzerland, and her art direction and book designs have been recognized with the Ben Franklin Award and the Editor’s Choice Award received by New Issues Press for the best small press book series. She is presently working on several research projects: Color in the Environment and Type and Image in Motion.
