Karen Bondarchuk

Karen Bondarchuk, a native of Canada, received her MFA in sculpture from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and her BFA in sculpture and video from NSCAD University (formerly the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design).  In addition to coordinating and teaching in the Foundations Area, she teaches drawing and sculpture courses. Her artwork is varied, including sculpture, kinetics, bookmaking, drawing, video and performance, and incorporates a wide array of materials from wool to scavenged tires to bagpipes. Her current work explores the level of artificiality that defines our relationship with the wild, and the reality that most close encounters with wildlife are by human design (zoos, roadsides, galleries, natural history museums, etc).  Bondarchuk has exhibited and performed in the United States, Canada, Italy, and England, and her work is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada and numerous private collections. She is also co-author of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC), which has been adopted in New Mexico (NMTA), Oklahoma (OGET/OSAT) and Illinois (ICTS).
