Mission Statement

The mission of the WMU Art Collection is to engender an awareness and appreciation of the visual arts through the exhibition of higher quality art on the WMU campuses.

The Collection

The university's art collection is defined as any object purchased with university funds or gifted to the university and accepted by the University Art Collection Committee under its guidelines.

There are two main categories:

  • The general collection comprises art objects purchased by or donated to the university without reference to a specific college, department or division. There are works represented from the late 18th century to the present and represent student, faculty and noted local and historical artists.
  • Unit Collections include art objects purchased by or donated to a specific college or division.
