Research interests:East Indian religions, transmigration & nationalism, transnational identity, women’s identity, American subculture

A closer look: I am a cultural anthropologist who is researching the formation of immigrant identities for East Indian and Indo-American women living in the United States. I am interested in the development of East Indian values and beliefs and how this affects cultural acceptance of East Indian immigrants in the U.S. and other westernized nations. On the side, I am also interested in American subculture groups like the SCA, “Rennies” (Renaissance Faire workers) and Goths and how their public and private identities shape their interaction with mainstream culture. And, since theatre was my first love, I still occasionally perform with local theatre groups.
