Research interests: gender roles in Islam, establishing identity in relation to kinship groups, issues of power and human rights, Islamic interpretations, nomadism, medical and biological anthropology, and linguistics

Regional Focus: Middle East, Central Asia

A closer look: Ashleigh Dunham is a cultural anthropologist who plans on doing research in the Arabian Peninsula and in Central Asia, focusing on women’s rights and establishing identity in relation to kinship groups. Before coming to WMU, she taught English overseas in South Korea. She is currently employed as a teaching assistant for Anthropology 3390: Cultures of Latin America.
