The Department of Anthropology at Western Michigan University is
committed to the traditional "four fields" approach represented
historically in American Anthropology as well as to 21st century
concerns about the practice of anthropology in the age of
globalization. Our program includes classes in cultural anthropology,
archaeology, linguistics and biological anthropology and our department
takes very seriously the mission of anthropology to study humans in all
their dimensions. Our Faculty and students are committed to the
practice of anthropology as a critical social science that both
appreciates human diversity and challenges global inequities.
