The Mission Statement

The purpose of the Program in American Studies is to provide students with a critical understanding of American identities through teaching and mentoring, as well as opportunities for internships and research. The program employs an interdisciplinary framework that examines the United States and its neighbors from regional, national, and global perspectives. This interdisciplinary approach to the American experience provides theoretical, methodological and practical grounding for students preparing for careers in journalism, politics, research organizations, public relations and informational technology as well as graduate studies in law, the humanities and the social sciences.
