Alumna wins air race classic
"Since a very young age, I have had a passion for aviation and flying and I have always been a serious competitor... this victory is very humbling and quite an honor," says Kelly Burris, B.S. '88, regarding her victory in the Air Race Classic, an all-female transcontinental air race. More.

Patten garners innovation award
Dr. John A. Patten, professor and chair of manufacturing engineering at WMU, has received one of six 2009 innovation awards from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Patten was recognized at the society's annual Conference for developing an innovative micro-laser-assisted machining process. More.


Former parliament member among grads

On June 27, Betty Udongo, a 43-year old mother of four from Uganda, received her doctorate in science education. Dr. Udongo served as a member of Uganda's parliament for three terms--finishing her last term in 2006 while studying at WMU. She will now return to her country to enhance educational opportunities for Ugandan children. More

University sets tuition
At their July 2 meeting, the University’s Board of Trustees approved a 5.7% increase in tuition and fees effective fall semester 2009. Approval of the 2009-10 budget also included a three million dollar increase in financial aid. Commenting on the budget and tuition increase, WMU President John Dunn said, "We’ve made a commitment to both our students and our state to keep our budget as lean as possible. We will continue to take advantage of every opportunity to contain costs and streamline every operation, but we will protect our core mission of providing opportunities for our students to be successful. “ More.

Football times and TV dates announced
Bronco football will air on national TV at least three times this year. WMU will open at Michigan on ABC/ESPN2 at 3:30 p.m. The Broncos will also face Indiana Sept. 12 on the Big Ten Network, which can be seen in 63 markets and on satellite television, as well as Ball State on ESPN2 live from Waldo Stadium on Nov. 24.
