Alumni Calls to Legislators Still Needed
The possibility of Michigan legislators passing a bill that would place WMU in a second tier for state funding still exists. It remains critically important that WMU alumni living in Michigan continue to contact both their local legislators and the Governor's office to strongly voice their support for the funding of all 15 public universities in one bill. Be sure to tell them that you oppose the separate funding bill for U of M, MSU and Wayne State. Last month, by a narrow margin, the MI House rejected a bill that would restore one funding bill for all state universities. The Senate passed a single budget bill for higher education, and the issue is now before a conference committee for resolution. Your calls have and will continue to make a difference. It remains critically important that all legislators hear from concerned WMU graduates. Two-tiered funding is detrimental to WMU and it will disadvantage the 12 universities that educate and serve two-thirds of Michigan's college students. More
