

President John M. Dunn began his first official day at WMU
on July 1. Dunn said his focus during the opening weeks of
his presidency will be on getting to know the campus and its
people. His initial areas of emphasis will be to strengthen
the sense of community on campus and bolster a campus culture
that keeps student service at its core. Within days of his
appointment being confirmed by the University's Board of Trustees,
Dr. Dunn and his wife Linda became life members of the WMU
Alumni Association. More

WMU alumnus Andre Mika will help to produce the largest high-definition broadcast in television history. Beginning in Sydney, Australia, and continuing across seven continents, the 22-hour nine-concert series will take place on Saturday, July 7. More

For the second straight year, WMU alumna Erin Thorne made the women's golf Academic All-MAC Team for the Mid-American Conference. She will begin her professional career on the Great Lakes Tour in Ontario this summer. More

Placing 12th out of 46 teams in the overall standings, WMU's Jennifer Jakubiec and Alison Pierce were relieved to make it through the storms. Eleven of the 46 entries failed to complete the race, due primarily to severe storms along the final three legs of the race. More
A trip to southern France at the end of his freshmen year took Jacob Durrett of Battle Creek, to the Cannes International Film Festival. Durrett was selected to be a festival participant earlier this year through the highly competitive Student Program of the American Film Pavilion.
Three WMU students and a University alumnus are part of an 80-member group that will travel to South Africa July 9, perform throughout that country as well as in Namibia, and return home Aug. 4. More

Graduating with a Bachelor of Science
in aviation flight science in June of 2005 opened
up many doors for Scott VanderPloeg. Currently a 2nd
Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, VanderPloeg
says he has "really enjoyed the experiences that
I have been blessed to have since joining the Air
Force." VanderPloeg hopes to be flying a C-17
by September. More
