

In January, Jeanne H. Carlson and William D. Johnston were appointed
to 8-year terms on the University’s Board of Trustees
by Michigan Governor Granholm. Both are graduates of the WMU
Haworth College of Business and members of the WMU Alumni Association.
Carlson served on the Association’s Board of Directors
from 1995-2002, and as its president in 2000-01. Johnston is
a long time member of the WMU Foundation Board of Directors
and served from 2001-2004 as its president. Continue

The Student Alumni Association presents its annual Take a Bronco to Lunch program on March 23 from noon to 2 p.m. in WMU's Fetzer Center. This program gives students the opportunity to be matched with a WMU graduate and talk one-on-one about their careers. This year's program will focus on chemistry, biology, and physics. Alumni working in these fields are encouraged to register for the luncheon program.

WMU’s
new chemistry building, located between Waldo Library and
the Dalton Center, opened to students at the beginning of
the Spring Semester. During the January 26 building dedication,
Dr. Michael Barcelona, chair of the Chemistry Department,
noted that the new state of art facilty, which replaces an
aging McCracken, will “materially improve our ability
to deliver modern science education.” Continue
Eight WMU students, all of whom are members of the University’s chapter of the American Marketing Association, were among the eight teams nationwide selected to present their marketing plan for bringing back tourism to the city devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They will travel to New Orleans in late March to present their plan to the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. Continue

Under the revised basketball tournament
format, all MAC basketball teams will travel to Cleveland
to participate in post season play. The women will play March
4, 6, 9, and 10 and the men on March 7-10. For tournament

WMU Head Football Coach Bill Cubit recently announced the names of the 9 offensive players, 11 defensive team members and one punter who comprise this year's recruiting class. Though her original intention was to have a career in
radio, after interning in London as a production assistant
for Associated Press Television, television became Laura
Stemmler's calling. Since 2000, Laura has worked for
ESPN in Bristol, CT where she is an associate director. Continue

Recipients of the award will receive a $1000 in first year as a WMU beginning student, with the potential of an additional $1000 per year for a maximum of three subsequent years. On January 18, the WMU Alumni Association hosted
the American League Champion Detroit Tigers in Miller
Auditorium as part of their Winter Caravan. More than
1,000 WMU alumni, students and Tigers fans of all ages
had an opportunity to see and hear Manager Jim Leyland
(pictured above), along with Brandon Inge, Craig Monroe,
Placido Polanco, Vance Wilson, and Justin Verlander, talk
about the highlights of the 2006 season and respond to
questions from the audience.
