When you make an online
payment to the WMU Alumni Association using the Secure Online Application,
all private data is encrypted so personal information is safe. All monetary
transactions go directly through a 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
Web server. SSL is an industry-standard protocol that creates a secure
connection to the server, protecting your information as it travels
over the Internet. SSL uses public key encryption, one of the strongest
encryption methods.
In Netscape Navigator you can tell that you are in the secure mode when
an unbroken key appears on the bottom left corner of your browser window.
Internet Explorer displays a padlock on the bottom right of the screen.
Another way to tell that the Web site is secured by SSL is to look at
the URL If the URL begins with https: (instead of http:), it is secured
by SSL.
