Undergraduate transfer online application instructions

First, take a few minutes to read all of the following information before applying online. The small amount of time you take now to read and understand these instructions will ensure that you avoid processing delays while awaiting our decision.

Undergraduate transfer application

This application is only for U.S. citizens or I-551 permanent resident card* holders who are:

Persons who have completed college courses after graduating from high school (or have a GED) but do not have a bachelor's degree.

*A copy of the I-551 alien registration card must be mailed to admissions. Processing of the application will be delayed until the copy is received.

Do NOT use this online form if you have previously attended WMU or submitted an application within the last two years--you must use the Application for Readmission (PDF).

Do NOT use this online form if you are seeking a second bachelor's degree or you are seeking post-baccalaureate teacher certification. You must use the printable application form (PDF).

Admissions criteria

All applicants must have an official college transcript sent from each institution attended. Applicants with at least a 2.00 (C) grade point average (as computed by WMU) in transferable course credits will be considered for admission. If you have earned fewer than 26 semester hours (39 quarter/term hours) at the time of application you must also submit either:

  • An official high school transcript, and
  • ACT or SAT scores (if you graduated from high school in the last two years),
    OR
  • An official GED score.

When you may apply

Complete the application for admission minimally six months prior to the semester in which you plan to enroll. We recommend that fall semester applicants apply in January. All application materials (application, fee, transcripts) must be postmarked by August 1 to be considered for admission for the Fall semester, and by December 1 for the Spring semester.

Social security information

Enter your name as it appears on your social security card. The social security number is required to apply for federal tax credits, financial aid, and/or campus employment, and reporting purposes. You will be assigned a student ID number upon admission.

Your intended major

You may be placed in a pre-curriculum and/or major (e.g., Pre-Aviation, Pre-Communication) at the time of admission if the program you are selecting has additional requirements for admission to be met after enrollment at the University.

If you are planning to pursue Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Law, or Pre-Medicine, review the list of acceptable majors to determine your intended major prior to completing the application. Choose one of these majors on the application; students elect the pre-professional option when meeting with an academic advisor.

If you are undecided on your major, you may choose University Curriculum, a program for students who wish to explore options before choosing a specific major. Please note that a coordinate major (a major taken in conjunction with another major) may not be selected at the time of admission. If you choose to elect a coordinate major, you will do so after you enroll.

Payment of your application fee

The nonrefundable $35 application fee must be paid online via credit card or by electronic check. Payments are processeed by a secure server.

Providing your transcripts

You must request that all colleges you have attended send an official transcript directly to Admissions. If you have completed fewer than 26 transferable semester hours (39 quarter hours), your high school transcript must also must be sent, as well as ACT or SAT scores (if you graduated from high school in the last two years). If you have taken the GED, arrange to have official scores sent directly to Admissions from the State Board of Education.

E-mail address

An e-mail address is required on the application because it allows a simple and convenient way to contact you during the application process. (After admission, the University provides all students with a WMU e-mail address which is used for important correspondence.) If you do not have an e-mail address, you can obtain a free account online for this purpose, or you can print and use the paper application. PDF.

Checking your work and errors

The application uses a checklist to help you keep track of your progress during completion. After you submit the application you cannot return to change entries, so check your work carefully. If you find you've made an error afterwards, e-mail admissions-info@wmich.edu or call (269) 387-2000 to request us to make the correction. In any case, do not submit a second application! This includes a change of entry date. We request that the student complete the application and that it not be entered by others, which helps avoid mistakes and delays.
