Financial Aid

Financial aid for higher education can include student and parent loans, grants and work-study options. Nearly everyone qualifies for some form of financial aid. The only way to find out how much assistance your family is eligibile to receive is to apply by filling out the free application.

The financial aid application process begins when you file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Select WMU using our school code, 002330. In addition, parents and students should each acquire a Personal Identification Number (PIN). This PIN serves as your electronic signature and will be used throughout the financial aid process.

It is important for high school seniors to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 because some aid is awarded until funds are exhausted. March 1 is the priority date for Michigan aid so it is best to complete the FAFSA before that date.

The WMU Financial Aid Application Checklist is a helpful tool that provides step-by-step information about navigating the world of financial aid.
