What tutoring services are offered at WMU? Is there ESL support?

The Center for Academic Success is here to help you create a successful future

Areas within CASP include: University Curriculum, TRIO, Writing Center, Alpha Program, Academic Skills Center, Intellectual Skills Development, and Advocacy Office for Transfer Students and Military Affairs.

The Academic Skills Center, located in Moore Hall, coordinates a free campuswide tutoring service that has been developed to help students as they make their way through certain courses of study.  The center identifies subjects to be tutored from recommendations made by students and faculty.  Students can contact the Academic Skills Center by calling (269) 387-4442.

The Writing Center offers all students help with their writing. Students can make appointments to meet one-on-one with a trained consultant in 1060 Moore Hall. The Center's services are free for students. We work with students in all degree programs and classes, students of all writing abilities, and international students. Our consultants include instructors, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students. For our complete schedule or for copies of our APA or MLA handouts, link to http://www.wmich.edu/casp/writing center/. Call (269) 387-4615.

The Career English Language Center for International Students (CELCIS) prepares non-native English speakers to use English effectively in their university study or careers.  Classes emphasize a holistic  approach to language learning.  Whenever possible, students participate in activities that simulate those situations they will experience in the academic arena.

CELCIS accomplishes this by offering language instruction and cultural orientation in: (a) an intensive full year English language program; (b) English as a second language bridge courses offered through the Department of English; and (c) training of and consultation with international teaching assistants and faculty through the Graduate College.
