Nonresidents can establish residence in Michigan and pay in-state tuition by living in Michigan for one calendar year. Residence can be established while enrolled full time at WMU. Most establish residence after one year of enrollment and enjoy paying in-state tuition three of their four years of undergraduate study.
WMU operates a flat-rate tuition plan, which means students pay the same tuition whether they take 12 or 16 credits therefore; it's in students' best interests to enroll in16 credits each semester and graduate in the traditional four-year period rather than five or six years. Graduating in four years rather than five can save more than $15,000 in educational expenses. Added to tuition savings, WMU graduates earn on average$35,000 in wages their first year following graduation. By graduating in four years and becoming employed, a total savings of $50,000 can be realized.
