What is student life like at WMU?

As a  student, you'll spend nearly 70 percent  of your time outside the classroom.  When you're not studying, you'll find a wide range of activities designed to broaden your college experience.

Each academic year begins with the Bronco Bash--an opportunity to get acquainted with university services, clubs and organizations, and meet your fellow students.  You'll find booths featuring area merchants and over 300 student organizations.  There is live music, food vendors and novelty attractions.

The University is affiliated with numerous academic and professional organizations.  As a member of many of these organizations, you can develop leadership skills, connect with faculty advisors and develop competence in a field of study.

WMU is home to more than 30 fraternities and sororities.  These organizations pride themselves on community service and leadership development.

As a Bronco athletics fan, you'll be able to enjoy 16 NCAA Division 1-A sports.  WMU students can attend sporting events free of charge.

WMU nurtures faith and spiritual development by supporting more than 30 faith based groups and denominations as well as additional student organizations that focus on social and global issues.

Community building events like the annual Native American Pow-Wow, International Festival and the week-long celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King give students the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures on campus.

WIDR-FM is our student run, non-commercial radio station and is famed for playing a "wider" variety of music than commercial stations.  The award winning Western Herald, our student operated and managed daily newspaper is a nationally recognized campus information source.

You'll have access to the latest fitness equipment and classes through the 240,000 square foot Student Recreation Center.  A popular meeting place for students, the center boasts an elevated jogging track, indoor soccer and hockey areas, a climbing wall, a swimming pool, nine racquetball courts and five basketball courts.
