What is the region that WMU is located in like?

Western Michigan University is located in southwest Michigan, just 40 miles from the beautiful eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan--a vacation destination for people from throughout the country.  Just west of downtown Kalamazoo--a city of 240,000 with 36 parks and home to four colleges and universities, WMU sits on 455 acres of rolling, tree-covered hills.  There are more than 130 buildings on the main campus and Parkview, home to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  Nearby Battle Creek is home to the College of Aviation--with more than 900 students, the program is among the top three largest aviation programs in the country..

An outdoor enthusiasts playground, WMU is connected to Lake Michigan's shoreline by the 40 mile long Kal-Haven bike trail that roams through thick forests and past picturesque rural communities.
