Approximately 81 percent of new, first-time students who apply for admission are admitted, and more than 40 percent of those admitted enroll each fall semester. This is a very typical applicant yield for a large, public comprehensive state university with nearly 25,000 undergraduates and graduates. Nearly 10 percent of students are nonresidents.
The fall 2006 entering class was 3,610 students. More than 1604 additional students transferred to WMU from other four-year and two year colleges and universities. The male to female ration is about 50/50. The average student carries 14 credits per semester.
