Happy Sunday!

June 2nd, 2013

Hey all,

Today has been a very eventful day, I went to church, came home and went to a BBQ for past as well as current Orientation Student Leaders. Just in case I never told you, I was an Orientation Student Leader during the summer between Freshmen and Sophomore year, I would recommend anyone to do it. It was a wonderful experience and definitely helped me network on campus. I can honestly say that it probably helped me get the leadership positions I got after it. It helped shape me. Anyways, going to the BBQ made me remember why I came to Western. It showed me why I stayed years after. The people. Western is known for its community, for it heads up feel. I went to that BBQ today and saw old friends and made new ones. The experience of Orientation is what we all shared, not the participating aspect of Orientation which everyone should experience, but the puzzle pieces that make Orientation what it is aspect. As leaders we were key to Orientations success, we knew/know what it takes to make the experience come alive for the first year students, we understand each others struggles, and frustrations and are able to sympathize with each other because of the simple experience of Orientation as leaders. Western has that feel, the people, the community understand what its like to be a BRONCO, I suppose in simple terms. Everyone I meet embodies the same WESTERN the same BROWN and GOLD. The key element of UNDERSTANDING. That is why I came and that is why I am still here and that is why I plan to stay for many years after. The PEOPLE. Have a wonderful day until next time.

Another Day ..Another Dollar!

May 30th, 2013

Hey all,

“Its a wonderful day to be a bronco”. I am relaxing at work on this beautiful day. There are many smiling face on campus. We have been very successful with the Special tours we have been giving. I must say that it is always a joy to see young faces interested in college. I am extremely excited for the special tour that I have tomorrow, there is no telling what will happen. I am extremely happy to know that I am apart of an amazing team that helps to promote one of the greatest schools, in the state of Michigan. I can’t help but to think about all the prospective students we help make a college decision each year. Its amazing to think about the difference that we as tour guides, telecounselors (the individuals that call you and talk to you about Western Michigan University), and admission representatives make on the students that come on tours and or special events.Well until next time!!

Back to Work it is!

May 28th, 2013

Hey everyone, I hope that you enjoyed your Memorial Weekend. I actually am returning from a week long vacation at home. It was definitely well needed. The summer has been great. Nice weather and fun times. Currently I am working on a Psychology Research project. Its actually pretty fun, I love the people I work with and on top of that it is giving me the chance to use everything I’ve learned in my psychology classes. I cant wait to meet with my research group this week, I’m sure we will have much to discuss.

I’m back at work, so excited to get back to giving tours and calling. It seems as though its going to rain to but ill be spending a lot of time with my lovely co-worker. I can’t believe its that time again.. ORIENTATION! One more week and it all beings. There will be many new face making their first step into the BRONCO FAMILY. Today my Registered Student Organization (RSO) will be setting up information tables for them during Involvement Zone. I can’t wait to recruit for my Rugby team. I have a good feeling about our turn out this year.

Just in case you didn’t know Involvement Zone is actually and event during Orientation where the first year students are exposed to a large number of our RSO’s on campus and are encouraged to pick up informational  sheets on the Groups, Clubs and Greek Life.  Anyway I’ll keep you posted on whats NEW AT WMU. Until we meet again.

HAPPY SWEETEST DAY

October 20th, 2012

HAPPY SWEETEST DAY!!! These last few weeks have been a bit hectic from classes, to work, to rugby to life in general. It has truly been too long since the last time we have spoke. Well let me catch you up on my life. My classes have been pretty demanding but what can you expect when success is what you want in your future. I have successfully destroyed every exam that has dared to challenge me so far this year with the help of my study guides and long study hours. The semester is about half way over and i couldn’t be happier with where i am academically. Today i plan on studying for a few hours for my exams that i have next week, but before that i plan on relaxing with my friends before the chaos begins again.

As for work, the hours have been nice, and the tour groups have been wonderful. The ongoing training that I have been undergoing has been so beneficial for me that I can honestly say that i feel like a WMU expert when it comes to the university. Never in my wildest dreams would i have thought that i would know as much as I do about the university. Today i had the best group in a while, they had multiple questions that really test the information that i was being trained on. I had a wide range of major interests and lucky for me i had multiple guides working with me that currently studied in the fields. So lunch was very informational and personal for each guest in my opinion and the fact that the guests left with a smile and information that meant something to them specifically put the icing on the cake.

Rugby! Rugby has been wonderful my team has been very successful we are currently 4-1 and going into our 6th game tomorrow morning against GVSU. Since the last time we spoke a lot of things have happen in the world of Rugby i am now one of the new captain for my team. Its  a leadership roll that i am more than pleased to excel in. Well until next time my fellow readers, until next time.

Hello world!

September 13th, 2012

My name is Delia and I am Junior here at Western Michigan University. I am originally from a little town called Livonia which is on the east side of the state.  I went to Mercy High School in Farmington Hills which was an all-girl Catholic prep school. I graduated in the spring of 2010 and set out for college. I played Varsity Basketball and also ran Varsity Track during my high school years. My transition from middle school to high school was an adventure in and of itself simply because my middle school was co-ed and public but then again it is all about switching things up.

Western was the last college that I visited and as I walked around the campus on my tour, I fell in love with it. My guide was entertaining and clearly in love with the university. The tour was somewhat personal. My interests were taken into account. I wasn’t just a number. The people on the campus were very friendly and willing to help if they could. The atmosphere of the campus was like no other I had seen. It was small but at the same time gave me a large University feel. Everything was within reach. Whatever I needed I could get on campus with the expectation of no more than a 15 min walk. Once I took my tour I knew it was where I wanted to be.

Going into my third year at a University I now call home, I have become involved with more than I could ever imagine.  I currently play woman’s rugby which is a club sport on campus. It is not too much of a commitment with practice being only three days a week (2hrs in length) and games being on the weekends. It definitely helps me keep the freshman 15 off. I also participate in the Intramural sports such as Flag football and basketball.

Well just to keep this short and sweet, I’ll leave on a positive note, just one of the simple theories/quotes I try to remember and live by: “You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationships with other people, and to know and be known”. Until next time…
