Walking through campus on one of your most stressful days can seriously make your day so much better. Western’s campus is so gorgeous and it always seems to make my day when I walk though it.
The other day I was on campus late studying in the library. On my way back to my apartment I walked though Miller Plaza. It was the prettiest I have ever seen it at night. The fountain with the night was amazing. That made walking through campus and the stress i had from studying melt away just for a moment.
Students have concerns about walking through campus alone at night. I have never had an issue with walking alone, or being afraid. WMU is my second home and I have never felt threatened on campus at any time and especially at night. We do a great job as a University in protecting students and having a safe campus for students.
If for ever reason a student may feel in danger while walking on campus we have emergency system set up that students can access. The blue emergency lights that are around campus allow you to push a button and within 30-90 seconds a police officer will be there to help. If you are just afraid to walk alone or if there is an emergency they can help!!
We also have an escort service that will take you back to your residence hall if you feel threatened. Two students will walk with you from where you are to where ever you need to go on campus. We also have vehicle escorts that will do the same.
