WMU Next Steps Newsletter

The third and final issue of the Next Steps Newsletter is now available. You will find information on First Year Seminar, the Diversity and Multiculturalism Scholarship, Parent Orientation, parent loans, and the WMU Bookstore’s special computer discount for incoming freshmen.

The March newsletter covered important information on Dining Services, Fall Welcome, the Division of Multicultural Affairs, and applying for financial aid. If you did not receive one of the first two issues of the newsletter, we encourage you to view them. These letters are filled with useful information as you prepare for Fall 2008.

Next Stop: WMU student portal

Next Stop: WMU is an online community designed just for admitted WMU students. Login to meet your new classmates, view articles, videos and surveys on subjects that matter, from timelines that take you through your first week of classes to tips on exploring majors and careers to keeping in shape.

How to sign-up

Registration is easy, enter your first and last name, the e-mail address you included on your application, choose a screen name, and enter a password. Contact us if you are unable to login.

The Western Edge™

Reduce college cost, get a degree faster, land a job sooner

The Western Edge™ is a plan designed to put students first and to demonstrate WMU’s commitment to student success. There are four key components to the Western Edge™:

• Students who earn 30 credit hours during their first year on campus while maintaining a 3.0 gpa will receive a $500 scholarship when they return to WMU the following fall.
• Enhanced academic advising helps students to move through their academic programs to degree completion in a minimum amount of time.
• Graduation compacts ensure that classes are available to students when they need them.
• For students who choose to stay in the residence halls, room and board rates remain the same for up to four years.
