LEAD Corp Interns
My name is Anna Salvaggio, and I am a Lee Honors College student studying Sales and Business Marketing and will be graduating in April 2014! Originally from Warren, MI, I graduated from Warren Mott High School in 2010. I began my career at WMU as a freshman member of the WMU Dance Team, one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I’ve had, making me the very enthusiastic and energetic Bronco Fan that I am today. Since then, I have been involved with many organizations on campus but mostly enjoyed being an Orientation Student Leader in 2011 and a very strong advocate for the Western Student Association and Fraternity & Sorority Life on campus. Other than being involved as a student leader, I am an IM Flag Football Champion, an employee of The Spirit Shoppe and an Energy Squad member for the Detroit Tigers of which I am also a HUGE fan!!! I have future goals of traveling the country as a Leadership Consultant for my National Sorority, and/or possibly living and working in New York City. This is my first year as a Lead Corp Mentor and I hope to share all I have learned during my time at WMU and help first year students develop and grow into the leaders they hope to become. I can’t wait to meet you all!
I'm Autumn and I'm originally from Farmington Hills, MI (near Detroit). I am majoring in speech-language pathology and am really excited to get back to Western for my sophomore year! This year, I am looking forward to continuing my involvement with residence life as a resident assistant, and with the SALP office as a Lead Corp intern. I am also involved with the brand new pom team on campus and can't wait to see how that organization will take off this year. I am pumped to see where my journey as a part of Lead Corp will take me and am hoping to meet a lot of great people that are just as enthused about leadership as I am!
My name is Cameron Segard I am currently a senior studying Aerospace Engineering here at Western. I have been studying at Western since fall of 2010 and have enjoyed every day of it! At times it has been challenging but through struggle we grow stronger enabling us to tackle more daunting tasks in the future. I strive to guide students to become the most they can be by leading by example and sticking to my values as an eagle scout. I have become the Chair of WMU’s AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) chapter; each year we compete in an aircraft design competition and host guest speakers related to the Aerospace industry. I have also had the opportunity to work Fall Welcome, Bronco Bash, and Co-Facilitate Leaders Unplugged backpacking trip in the Manistee National Forest. As a Lead Corp intern we mentor new students through the Emerging Leaders program engaging students in constructive conversations to instill productive study habits and develop leadership skills. When I find a bit of free time I enjoy spending time with friends, going to the movies, and flying RC airplanes. I am very excited to see what this year has in store with its endless challenges and opportunities. It’s a GREAT day to be a BRONCO!!
My name is Casey Wright and I am a sophomore studying Biomedical Sciences. I am originally from the east side of the state in a little town called New Baltimore. I graduated from Anchor Bay High School in Fair Haven in 2012. I am a Lee Honors College student and a Medallion Scholar. While I originally aspired to be a medical doctor when I got to Western, my dreams have shifted in a more research oriented direction. I spend most of my time geeking out about science and my aspirations now include grad school and eventually a PhD. I participated in Emerging Leaders last fall and received a Leadership Certificate this spring. This is my first year with Lead Corp and I am excited to bring the experience to other aspiring leaders. I hope to be a guide for my mentees who can help them navigate the difficulties that the first year of college brings while encouraging and motivating them to be better students and individuals.
My name is Chanell O’Rourke and I am currently a Junior studying Nursing with a minor in Psychology here at Western! Although I tend to have an overwhelming schedule most of the year I never put the opportunity behind me to be involved on campus. My involvement incudes being a second year member of Leadcorp, an Emerging Leader mentor, a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda and Sail Club. I want to continue my leadership and be of help to anyone who needs the guidance to be part of the leadership experience at WMU! Other than being a school spirit nerd I enjoy playing IM soccer, tennis, the occasional bowling game and snowboarding. I can’t wait for another amazing school and look forward to meeting you…GO BRONCOS!!
My name is Cody Potter and I am a junior this year at Western. Before my Kalamazoo days I have spent my entire life in Kentwood, Michigan. Here at Western I am majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Mathematics and Marketing. I started my involvement at Western by becoming part of the climbing wall staff at the Student Recreation Center. From there I became a Facility Manager and the Student Marketing Coordinator of University Recreation. This past year I was a Fall Welcome Ambassador and First-Year Seminar Student Instructor. During my summers off I have taken the chance to experience the world in some life changing experiences as I studied abroad in China and recently volunteered to help make a difference for 2 months in Uganda where I helped build a school and orphanage. Outside work and school I enjoy rock climbing and doing awesome stunts. With all of this leading me to the halfway mark of my college career at Western, I am very excited to be a part of the LeadCorp team this year and I am also very excited to meet more of the awesome broncos I will hopefully cross paths with.
I am currently a sophomore at WMU. During the school year I call Kalamazoo my home given I am originally from Naperville, Illinois, a large town in the western suburbs of Chicago. As an out of state student, I find comfort in submerging myself in my dance major and various leadership opportunities. On campus I can be found dancing on the third floor of Dalton, exercise at the Rec Center, and representing Western on the cover of Residence Life. I am constantly balancing my schedule between being a board member of Orchesis Dance Society, touring with the Western Dance Project (WDP), academics, and Lead Corp. As a current Emerging Leaders Certificate holder, I’m eager to help mentor other ambitious first years. I hope to use this internship opportunity to encourage my fellow Broncos to follow their passion no matter the field they choose.
I'm Elliot Berg and I'm from South Lyon, Michigan. I'm a Junior here at WMU and everyday I'm reminded of why I chose this amazing school. As of last year I'm an Economics major with a double minor in Business Administration and Political Science. My freshmen year I wasn't very involved and had a rough time managing time which was devastating to my GPA. The following year I got involved in CAB, joined Phi Gamma Delta, a new Fraternity on campus, participated in the Spring Leadership Retreat, and vastly improved my GPA. This upcoming year I have high hopes and look forward to continuing a role on CAB's e-board, as well as developing by-laws for Phi Gamma Delta. I am just ecstatic about LeadCorp, after attending the retreat last year I'm really looking forward to see what goes into facilitating a retreat. This is a great group of people, it's going to be a good year, and as always it’s a great day to be a bronco!
Hey, I’m Mike. I’m entering my final year at WMU, majoring in Film, Video, & Media Studies with a minor in Global & International Studies. I currently serve as CAB’s External Relations Coordinator, as Corresponding Secretary for my fraternity (FIJI), as an Associate Justice on WSA’s Judicial Council, and as one of the 2013 Bronco Bash Coordinators. I will also be a co-facilitator for a section of the First Year Seminar class. My past involvement includes CAB, WSA, Fall Welcome, and Young Broadcasters of Tomorrow. There’s few things I enjoy more than knowing that I’m being helpful, so if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask. I look forward to working with an amazing group of Emerging Leaders!
Hello, my name is Justin Scharphorn and I am currently a Senior here at WMU studying Business Management with a minor in Marketing. My involvement on campus includes being a dedicated member of Greek Life, a senator for the Western Student Association, a member of the Student Leadership Advisory Board for the Haworth College of Business, and my first year of being involved with LeadCorp and the Emerging Leaders Program. I have also been a part of the First Year Experience programs as an Orientation Student Leader in 2012, a First Year Seminar instructor, and a Fall Welcome Ambassador. When I'm not studying or doing awesome things on campus, I enjoy spending time with my friends, playing video games, and golfing. I look forward to meeting all of you and helping you achieve all of your goals here at WMU!! Go Broncos!
My name is Lexie Frank, and I'm currently a senior studying Social Studies for Secondary Education, double minoring in History and Gender and Women's Studies. I am a transfer student from Grand Valley, and I couldn't be happier to be starting my third year at Western! My involvement at WMU has included being an Emerging Leader, volunteering as a Spring Into The Streets site leader, being a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and this fall, I'm co-instructing a section of FYS! I've joined RSOs all over the map, but my real love is LeadCorp. This will be my second year as a LeadCorp intern, and I'm so excited to begin another year of building leadership on campus. Besides school, I enjoy volunteering, drinking coffee, playing tennis, hanging out with friends, and playing with my dog. This year is going to be great, and I'm really looking forward to meeting you!
My name is Sarah Schmitt and I am from Macomb, Michigan. I am currently studying Behavioral Sciences and minoring in Hearing and Speech Processes. My future plans include completing a Master’s degree at WMU and hopefully starting up my own early intervention center for children with autism! When I decided to attend Western I jumped on the leadership bandwagon with Emerging Leaders. Throughout the past two years I have continued my leadership journey with many other awesome opportunities such as participating in Drive Safe Kalamazoo, joining Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity, and becoming a LeadCorp intern. I know there are plenty more awesome opportunities to come in the next two years and I am beyond excited to see where it will take me!
My name is Savannah Hill and I am a senior this year at Western. I am from the east side of the state, and my major is Organizational Communication and I have a minor in Marketing. This will be my third year with the LeadCorp program and I’m excited to see where it can go this year! My life on campus has been filled with many things; I started my involvement at Western out with Emerging Leaders and the Campus Activities Board. I also attended many SALP events to get a better perspective. From there I came onto the LeadCorp team and expanded my horizons! During my time with LeadCorp I have planned many workshops, retreats, and have been able to meet so many great student leaders. I was a Bronco Bash Coordinator in 2012, and I continued involvement into that year by being involved with Fall Welcome, mentoring students for leadership certificates, and being the Spring Into the Streets Event Coordinator. This year I plan to stay involved as a Zone Captain for Bronco Bash and Fall Welcome. I stay involved on campus through working as well- I am a First-Year Seminar Student instructor, a WMU office manager, a climbing wall staff member at the Student Recreation Center, and I am one of the Special Programs Coordinators for LeadCorp. In my spare time I like to run obstacle course races, rock climb, and I am quite the yoga enthusiast. I can’t wait to see what my last year with Western has in store for me and I hope to spend my last year getting to meet and know some more students who I know will make a difference.
My name is Tyler Spitzer, I am currently studying Accounting, Finance, and Economics. I have only been at Western since 2012, but I have learned and had the time of my life. I have a very busy schedule at Western and even though I am only here for my second year I am a junior by credits. I also never passed up an opportunity to be involved on campus: I was the Campus Activities Board (CAB) representative to the Western Student Association (WSA), WSA Political Affairs Vice Chair, on the WSA’s Election Control Board, Hillel’s Representative to CAB, awarded the Golden Bronco First Year Student of the Year, and I am currently first year member of LeadCorp, Hillel’s representative to the WSA, and my fraternity’s, Pi Kappa Phi, current treasurer. My main goal is to help people realize everything they can do and accomplish here at Western and do help them out however I am able. I am ecstatic for this new year, and to meet all of you. GO BRONCOS!!!
