Chemistry & Culture:
“Elements of Dance”

The Results

Please note that we are currently planning another dance event for 2013 and are looking for sponsors and collaborators.

Here is some exciting news!
Our event is a finalist for the ChemLuminary Award!

It has been six years since our Section received a ChemLuminary Award [2007 for Best on-going event for National Chemistry Week].  This year our self-nomination has brought us the designation of “finalist” (one of three) in the “Most Innovative New Activity or Program” category – look in our September Newsletter after the Fall National ACS Meeting in Indianapolis to see if we were declared the winner; better yet, if you are attending the Indy Meeting, join the ChemLuminary party on Tuesday evening, September 10, at the Westin Indianapolis Hotel from 8:00 p.m. to midnight [free hors d’hoeuvres and dancing, too] and learn first-hand if our Section is declared the winner in this category!

Guzinski and Schoffers (WMU Department of Chemistry) performed showcase dances with their partners at "Elements of Dance" on November 9, 2012 at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and also taught a Salsa lesson. The event drew a total of 179 people, including 63 local chemists along with ballroom dancers and spectators.
Congratulations to Evan Dalke, a WMU graphic design student, who won a cash prize after submitting the winning T-shirt graphic, which was also printed in the event program.
More, TBA; please return at a later point to see additional photos, some pictures have also been posted on our public Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ACSKalamazoo?fref=ts.
