Negotiation Updates - August 6, 2014
It has been approximately 16 weeks since contract negotiations began between Western and the WMU-AAUP. Over the past few weeks, good progress has been made on noneconomic articles. We are hopeful that this positive momentum will continue as we move through August.
The two teams have reached tentative agreements (or “TA”s) on a number of articles, and it appears that we are close to reaching agreement on others. Both teams have chosen to remove some articles from discussion, which has enabled negotiations to be focused on the remaining articles. There are very few noneconomic articles that require discussion.
Western is poised and prepared to engage in the dialog on economics. We believe that negotiations will soon move to these vital articles. The discourse remains respectful and open. Both teams are interested in sharing perspectives, being good listeners, and finding common understanding.
