Helping you create a successful future

The Center for Academic Success Programs offers the following programs and services to all students:            

Academic Resource Center
- Arranges supplemental instruction—specific course or content assistance/tutoring
- Provides college success and effective reading seminars

Alpha Program
- Coordinates intensive assistance for underprepared incoming students
- Serves 200 first-year students per year

Career Counseling
- Provides career counseling and career assessment for all WMU students as well as offering UNIV 1020 Career Exploration and Development classes
- Located in the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, 3rd Floor Sangren Hall

Exploratory Advising
- Provides academic advising for 900 undergraduate students exploring majors
- Serves students who are waiting to audition for a program in the College of Fine Arts or are taking prerequisite courses ahead of declaring an engineering major

Intellectual Skills Development
- Arranges optional placement testing for entering students in math, reading and writing (placements are based on ACT scores and high school GPA)

Military and Veterans Affairs
- Assists 700+ military veteran, active duty and dependent students
- Arranges community connections between WMU and area military affiliations 

Service-Learning
- Coordinates partnerships between instructors/courses and community with a service-learning focus
- Manages over 35 service-learning projects each semester on campus and throughout the Kalamazoo community

TRiO SSP
- TRiO Student Success Program is a Department of Education grant-funded program for first generation, income-eligible students (250 students in program)
- Assists eligible students throughout all years at WMU 

Writing Center
- Provides writing assistance for graduate and undergraduate students in all majors, including online classes
- Assists in helping writers improve overall writing choices
